Usually, cream are applied twice a day, and the treatment should continue for at least 7-10 days after the rash completely disappears.
If you stopped using the cream too soon, the infection may not be eradicated completely, and the rash will return.
It may take several days for the anti-fungal cream to take effect.
In the meantime, one can use hydrocortisone cream to help relieve itching and pain.
The active ingredients in anti-fungal medications include:
Miconazole
(Brand Names: MICATIN®, DESENEX® powder/liquid spray, LOTRIMIN® powder/liquid spray)
For ringworm and jock itch
Powders are generally not as good as cream for treating fungal infections.
Clotrimazole
(Brand Names: Lotrimin AF® cream, TINACTIN® powder spray)
For athlete's foot
Terbinafine (Brand Name: LAMISIL AT®)
For athlete's foot and jock itch
